Charlie v. Willy

During a commercial break of yet another ABC Family offering (mmm, Dennis Quaid), an ad for Charlie and the Chocolate Factory came on.  I know many people adore Johnny Depp and don’t understand why I’m so firmly against this movie, but I’m a traditionalist on this one.  I LOVE Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory too much to even have the other one occupying space in my brain.  I love Gene Wilder, I love Grandpa Joe…heck, I can’t even imagine not having that particular creepy Mr. Slugworth.

I think they’re airing them back-to-back the first weekend in April (if you can tear yourself away from Spike’s airing of all six Star Wars movies) if you want to do your own comparative study.

If you’ll excuse me, I must go hum "I’ve Got a Golden Ticket…" for the next three hours.

I’m old school myself, so I’m definitely with you on this one. I tried to watch part of “Charlie” but just couldn’t get into it.

I prefer the older movie, however I have only seen Charlie and the Chocolate Factory once, so maybe it needs to grow on me.

  3. Kim says:

Definitely Wilder. Johnny Depp is remarkable, and Burton makes impressive films, but this one did NOT need to be re-made.

  4. Mia says:

I like Johnny Depp but I still prefer the original.
